Water Demand Management Unit (WDMU)
Water Demand Management Unit (WDMU) is a recently
established unit at the Ministry of Water and Irrigation. This unit was
established by the end 2002 to undertake the responsibility of Water
Demand Management Programs for all sectors in Jordan. Water Demand
Management aims at reducing the demand on fresh water in a serious
attempt to match it with the available supplies before embarking on the
development of additional water resources and supplies.
Mission of the unit
To increase water use efficiency in and among municipal, industrial,
tourism and agricultural sectors while maintaining the social and
economic benefits of water use
Activities of the WDMU will include:
- Providing support and Information to entities interested in
reducing water consumption
- Monitoring misuse of water and recommending enforcement and
regulatory measures
- Promoting information and events that lead the general public to a
better understanding and appreciation for demand management
- Tracking how much water is being conserved in the Kingdom as a
result of the Ministry’s efforts
