Mujib Weir Conveyor and Southern Ghors Infrastructure

Background

Stage I of this project was implemented in the early eighties and comprised the utilization of the water of the six side Wadis in the area especially Wadi Hasa to:

• Develop about 46,000 dunums of irrigable agricultural land
• Supply about 8 MCM/year to the Arab Potash Company (APC) at Safi

Stage II is a part of the integrated project for development of Southern Ghors. Water obtained from the base flow at Mujib basin and from the dams are being constructed (Walah, Mujib, &Tannur)will be supplied to the purposes of Irrigation, Industrial and Touristic areas in the vicinity of the projects.

Objectives

The project aims at the utilization of the base flows and the flood flows of both Wadi Mujib and, Wala & Hasa for the purposes of Touristic, Industrial, and Agricultural as fellow:

• Touristic areas at Zara and Sweimeh
• Factories of Salt, potash and bromine
• Land lots of (16000) dunums b/w Mazra's and Khnazeira plateau located in Wadi Araba.

Project Description


Stage II is divided into two parts:

Part I: (conveyance system) comprises Mujeb weir, Pump station, conveyors and tanks. While part II (Irrigation System) comprises of irrigation-pressurized pipes, roads and drainage systems.

Project Status


Project works will be divided into more parts then will be re-announced for again for tendering, Arab Fund and ISBD and Abu Dhabi Fund secure financing

Estimated Cost

The total estimated cost of the project is JD48.0 million.
