Upgrading Kufranja Wastewater Treatment Plant

Background

Due to the rapid increase in the population of the Governorates of Ajloun and Kufranja, it has become necessary to expand the existing wastewater treatment plants Kufranja wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) services areas are located about 30 Km South of Irbid and 87 Km north of Amman. The treatment plant facilities presently serve a population of approximately 31000cap. The treatment plant of Kufranja was constructed and placed in operation in 19990,it consists of:

1. Preliminary treatment (mechanical bar screen which is usually on duty, 1. Manually–cleaned bar screen which is used as stand-by and par shall flume.
2. Primary treatment.
3. Secondary treatment tickling filter.
4. Tertiary treatment maturation pond.

Objectives

The project objectives are to expand and upgrade the existing Wastewater Treatment Plants and to increase the efficiency of wastewater treatment to serve the needs of the connected areas.

The project components are as follows:

• Treatment Plants
• Collection systems
• Pumping stations
• Reuse Program

Project Status

Financing of the JD12.0 million during the investment program period is under negotiation.

The total estimated cost is JD12.0 million
