Background
Urban areas in some of the southern part of the Greater Amman Municipality
are developing faster than WAJ’s ability to connect them by gravity to the
existing Greater Amman Wastewater Treatment Plant (As-Samra WWTP).
The project study covers wastewater collection, treatment and effluent
reuse from communities that drain south toward the Wala Wadi. This
includes the urban areas of Um Qusier, Al Muqablein, Khreibt Al Suq, Sahab,
Juwyydeh, Jawa, Yaduda, Abu Alanda, Queismeh, and the rural areas in the
watershed, such as Jiza & Talbiyah, whose future development will be
affected by the industrialization and nearness to the Queen Alia
International Airport.
Objectives
The objectives of the study are:
• Improving the existing wastewater situation in the communities South of
Amman.
• Protecting the water resources in the Wala Wadi
• Improving the standard of health and living conditions.
Project Description
• East Wastewater Treatment Plant (North East Queen Alya Airport)
• Design Capacity = 31,000 m3/day.
• An Experimental Wastewater Treatment Plant using a constructed wetland.
• Wastewater Network (estimated length: 500 Km.).
• Irrigation and Reuse Systems
Project Status
The Detailed Final Design of the wastewater collection, treatment plants
and reuse of wastewater had completed by the end of 1999. The financing of
the JD60.0 million during the investment program period is under
negotiation.
Estimated Cost
The total estimated cost of the project JD60.0 million. |
