Rehabilitation of Southern Ghors Irrigation Stage I

Background

The Southern Ghors Irrigation Stage I was constructed in 1985 to irrigate an area of 46,800 dunums in Haditha, Mazra'a, Safi, Dhira, Fiefa and Khanzeira areas, depending on the base flows of side Wadis. The project consists of 5 pump station and around 240Kmof networks.

As a result of the floods, which occurred in 1992, most of the irrigation infrastructures of (Stage I) were damaged.

JVA has repaired the damages. At this stage, many of the project components need rehabilitation in order to increase the overall irrigation efficiency.

Objectives

This project aims is to study the rehabilitation components and identify the necessary measures redesign any component that may be required to improve the system operation. The project area 46800 dunums.

Project Description

This project consists of:

• Rehabilitation of about 1,532 farm turnout assemblies
• Replacement of pressure regulators on the main lines
• Installation of water meters on the main lines
• Replacement of some main lines
• Rehabilitation of sand filters
• Rehabilitation of gates on weirs, silting basins and storage ponds diversion weirs on side wadis, setting basins and storage boards, pipe network (240Km),
• Rehabilitation of flood protection ponds

Project Status

Consultant started work on June 1999 and the Final Design documents is ready, financing is secured, the JD8.4 million is to be financed by WB, HKG and others.

The total estimated cost of this project is JD 8.4 million
