  Dead Sea Wastewater Infrastructure

Background

In it's continuous effort to develop the Jordan Valley, the Ministry of Water & Irrigation and the Jordan Valley Authority have completed a Master Plan for the development of the East Coast of the Dead Sea, with tourism development being the core of the development program.  In its first phase, the master plan addressed a total area of approximately 4,000,000 square meters along the coast.

Objectives

The implementation of infrastructure networks necessary to facilitate the growth and development of the East Coast of the Dead Sea area in order for it to realize its potential as a major future contributor to the national economy of Jordan income.

Project Description

The project consists of the construction of a wastewater treatment plant approximately 1,400 m to 1650 from the south end of the Suweimeh development area.  The wastewater treatment capacity is designed for an average of 4,360 m3/day.  The wastewater reuse network will consist of a pumping station at the Wastewater Treatment Plant designed to pump the treated effluent to the effluent receiving tank located at the site through a pressure line (ND 300 DI) of approximately 1,100m.  Treated effluent will be reused for landscape irrigation including general flowers, shrubs, and trees.
